Riggs is becoming more engaged as time has progressed. He still is reluctant to take treats at times but is getting better. This week we worked on “under,” “out,” and “stand.” He was grasping under and out last week so we refined those a bit and worked on stand. He had it down within a day or two and I am beginning to work on “block” and “six” which will be two of his specialty commands.

Riggs is doing really well overall. Of all the Dog’s I have trained he is the most “service” temperament. He gets along great with all other dogs and is very engaged with his handler. He checks in regularly and seems to be very intuitive and understands what I am saying and wanting from him. He is really a great dog and I have grown quite fond of him.

One thing Riggs has become increasingly strong in is his awareness. By that I mean, he is not always the most engaged and making eye contact, but he still heels really well and when I stop he either stops when I do or will give me eye contact if I say his name or use engagement sounds. This is a strong quality in a dog because he does not need treats in these situations and treats do not keep his engagement. Many dogs will lose interest if they are not given treats often. The goal is to have an obedient dog that is not treat dependent and Riggs is just that.
