This week, Charlie made significant strides in mastering Stay commands across all three core positions—Sit, Down, and Stand. We're working to build distance, duration, and distraction tolerance, key pillars of the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) requirements.
Charlie reliably held Stay in different postures while his trainer moved away, walked around him, and introduced minor environmental challenges. He also worked on combining Stay with transitions and recalls, preparing him for real-world applications and CGC test scenarios.
We also focused on his emotional regulation and confidence, using socialization and Place Stay exercises in active areas to help him stay composed. His gentle personality, eager attitude, and growing patience continue to support his success.
Challenges Encountered:
• Stand-Stay initially caused confusion, especially when distractions were introduced. We addressed this by breaking the command down into smaller components and using clearer hand signals.
• He occasionally broke Stay when unfamiliar noises occurred, but consistent redirection and high-value rewards helped reinforce steadiness.
Personality Notes: Charlie remains affectionate and highly motivated by praise. He shows increased eye contact and engagement, which enhances his responsiveness. His calm curiosity helps him adapt well to new people and environments
